Coeur de gisant découpé en débit moreau, 30 x 210 x 8 cm / Heart of a recumbent statue cut out using the ‘moreau’ sawing pattern, 30 x 210 x 8 cm.

Un gisant a été moulé puis découpé en suivant le débit moreau - en forme de croix - qui s’applique aux troncs d’arbres. Une scie circulaire est donc venue traverser et réveiller cette sculpture endormie. Seul le coeur de la découpe a été conservé. Celui-ci réduit la sculpture en une ligne et concentre tous les éléments constituant le gisant. Il s’agit d’une inversion du procédé classique de la sculpture qui part d’un bloc pour y sculpter une forme. Ici, la pièce sculptée a été débitée pour en extraire un bloc.  

A recumbent statue has been cast and then cut out using the ‘moreau’ sawing pattern—in the form of a cross—which is used for tree trunks. A circular saw has thus passed through and woken up this slumbering statue. Only the heart of the cut has been kept. This reduces the sculpture to a line and concentrates all the elements forming the recumbent statue. This involves a reversal of the classic procedure for sculpture, starting out from a block and carving a shape in it. Here, the sculpted piece has been sawn to extract a block.
